Step Two: Clear it!

While most of the trees in our forest were fairly skinny, they were also tall! Having just moved to Michigan from the DC area, we were not equipped to clear trees. We don’t even have a lawnmower! Luckily, our neighbor is an excavator and was happy to help! After only a couple of weeks of working on it, we finally had cleared land. What an exciting time to see more and more of the future pasture become free of trees.

After only a few days, we were able to see a huge difference!

After a few more days (or maybe 6 or 7 days — we got a LOT of rain!), the clearing was finished! Our neighbor hauled off the logs for his fireplace, and we had nice, clear land to level a bit and get ready for grass.

As of today, it is ready! Now to decide between hydroseeding and manually spreading the perfect mixture of grass seed for optimal alpaca nutrition. Hmm….can you tell which way I’m leaning?

Besos!
